Between the 11th of August 2022 and to 13th of August 2022, we collaborated with Wikimedia User Group Nigeria and Igbo Wikimedians User Group to host a remote event for Wikimania 2022.
It was organized to create, celebrate and connect, virtually and with in-person components. It was a 4-day event held at Ibis International Hotel in Lagos. The participants were selected based on a set of predetermined criteria by each user group.
Participants connected with the global event, and there were individual and group presentations. Our advocacy on promoting Yoruba Wikipedia was shared and the Mr. Macaroni Skit for Yoruba Wikipedia videos was premiered at the event. These workshops, training, and discussions around promoting the Nigerian language Wikipedia. On the final day of the event, there were social activities and we connected to the global event from there.
A member of the Nigerian community, Dr. Osugwe Ikem was recognized as a newcomer of the year by Jimmy Wales. We participated in the announcement session. It was a great opportunity for us to collaborate with sisters’ groups.
