On the 11th of November 2022, our advisor Isaac Olatunde was invited by the department of Linguistics, African language and Asian Studies, the University of Lagos as a guest speaker to speak about the importance of studying language as a discipline and the economic value of studying an indigenous language. The event was part of new students, welcome, and orientation programs organized by the department. The event was attended by more than 100 students and academic staff members. The event provided us with an opportunity to talk about the Yoruba Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, and the efforts of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group in the past years.
Participants who specialized in the Yoruba language expressed interest in joining the Yoruba Wikimedia Community, and an attendance sheet was shared with them to collect their contact details.
A follow-up training would be organized for them in January 2023.
