The 1st of October 2022, marks Nigeria’s proclamation of independence from British rule on 1 October 1960.
The Yoruba Wikimedians User Group organized an edit-a-thons in Lagos to commemorate Nigeria’s independence. The edit-a-thon focused on creating new politics of Nigeria-related content and improving existing articles on Yoruba Wikipedia. The event was held at La Regial Airport Hotel, and a total of 19 members of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group attended the event and contributed to the Yoruba Wikipedia.
The event was attended by Tunde Oladimeji a renowned documentary filmmaker, Yoruba film actor, producer, and Director. Participants were excited to meet him for the first time as they only see him on television. He encouraged members of the Yoruba Wikipedia community to protect the credibility, quality, and integrity of the Yoruba Wikipedia by contributing quality content to the encyclopedia.
During the edit-a-thon, a total of 32 articles were created or improved by the participants and at least 1 new editor joined us.
